What is it?

Organic produce or groceries are sold with a rather expensively obtained accreditation to ensure certain industry standards are upheld. The welfare of animals involved in organic farming is a huge consideration as is the routine use of antibiotics and other medications in addition to the sustainability of practice and procedures.

The standards for farmed organic produce differs from fresh produce but there is a core set of values that overlaps the two ways of creating food supplies.

Animal Welfare

For those with sensitive skin, a general rule of thumb would be to avoid known sensitizing ingredients. The most common skin allergies can develop quickly or gradually over time, making pesky ingredients hard to pinpoint and eliminate from your routine. If you have a skin condition in which your skin barrier is compromised such as eczema, avoid fragrance and essential oils in your makeup and skincare routine as standard. Those with sensitive skin should endeavour to have thorough patch testing to determine their individual allergens.

Sustainability

Unlike organic produce, a beauty brand that utilises organic-derived ingredients will not endure the same sustainability scrutiny as a farmer. Instead, organic beauty products from moisturisers to suncreams and foundation, are organically regulated with the refinement of ingredients in mind. Most commonly organic beauty brands contain a very small ingredient list with many focusing on providing a market for single-source and multipurpose oils such as jojoba oil, rosehip oil and marula oil.
